Retreat Oct 2015: Session 4

Heb 9
[28] so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Jesus came the first time to open the door for the whole world to be saved by dying on the cross. The door is still wide open. The second time Jesus comes, there will be judgment, but the real focus is full redemption and final salvation for the church.

Who is the church? Heb 9:28 sums it up well–Christians are those who have been seeking Jesus and putting our faith in Jesus, and therefore, can be described as those who are “eagerly waiting” for Jesus.

1 John 2
[28] And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. [29] If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

When Jesus returns, we won’t be ashamed that we didn’t do more, or achieve more, or serve more. We will only be ashamed of one thing–that we failed to abide in Christ and trust Him. Our only regret will be the fact that we spent most of our lives shrinking back in fear instead of exercising faith.

Let’s press in with absolute trust and faith in Jesus so that we will be confident when the King returns.
